Funding opportunities within Europe

In the EU, a self-organised internship in a company or other institution can be funded through the ERASMUS Mobility Placement Programme (SMP).

Under these links you will find Erasmus+ explanatory videos on the topic of internships abroad in Europe:

  • Only full-time internships (40 hours/week) are funded
  • Duration of the internship is a minimum of two months (60 days) and a maximum of 12 months
  • Proof of sufficient language skills
  • Traineeships in the country of origin cannot be supported by the Erasmus+ grant
  • Funding must be applied for at least 6 weeks prior to the start of the internship. A funding of already begun or past internships is not possible

  • EU institutions, EU programmes, international and European organisations or internships in Switzerland are not eligible for funding.
  • Graduates may be eligible for ERASMUS+ Internships/Internships if they complete the international internship within one year of completion of the relevant study phase.
Funding sumHide

The financial support for ERASMUS+ stays by students is based on the cost of living in the target country ("programme countries").

Depending on the destination country, the following monthly rates apply:

  • Group 1 : Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden - monthly 750 EUR
  • Group 2 : Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain - monthly 690 EUR
  • Group 3: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, FYR Macedonia, Turkey - EUR 540 per month.

The funding can be supplemented by top-ups for students and graduates with few opportunities or sustainable travel.

The funding amount is paid out in 2 instalments as one-off payments. After the start of the stay, about 70% of the total funding is initially paid out. The final payment is made after completion of the stay and submission of all necessary documents.

Top-up for students and graduates with fewer chancesHide

Students with fewer chances* receive 250 EUR per month in addition to their Erasmus+ grant.

*In the 2022 project:

  • Students and graduates with a disability from GdB 20 or a chronic illness
  • Students and graduates who spend their stay abroad with children
  • First-generation university students from a non-academic home.
  • Working students
Top-up for sustainable travel (Green Travel)Hide

Students will receive a top-up of 50.00 EUR for environmentally friendly travel in the new 2021-2027 programme generation and can also apply for up to four additional funding days.

According to the ERASMUS+ Guide, environmentally friendly travel is carried out mainly by sustainable means of transport such as bus, train or car sharing.

Travelling in your own car and without passengers, or by plane or ferry, is not considered low-emission and therefore cannot be supplemented by the Top-Up.

Enclosed you will find the Declaration of Honour on Green Travel.

Important: Evidence of climate-friendly travel is subject to random checks. Receipts for environmentally friendly travel to and from the destination must therefore be kept in the original for five years and submitted to the International Office for verification upon request. If it is not possible to provide proof, the funding must be repaid.
