uni-assist

For all bachelor’s programmes and for some master’s programmes, international applicants from outside the EU who have obtained their degree abroad must apply via uni-assist and undergo a fee-based special procedure:  Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) - preliminary review documentation process.

Requesting a VPD via uni-assist alone does not count as an application for a degree programme at the University of Bayreuth.

How do I get a VPD?

Please keep in mind that due to uni-assist’s processing time it may take 6-8 weeks for your preliminary review documentation to be issued. You should therefore apply for your VPD as early as possible. We can only accept your VPD if it has been issued for an application to the University of Bayreuth. Your preliminary review documentation will remain valid for one year.

  • Due to recent developments with regard to the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), it is
not necessary to submit paper documents to uni-assist to obtain a preliminary documentation review for winter semester 2022/23 and summer semester 2023.

Here you will find FAQs about pandemic changes / reports from uni-assist and the University of Bayreuth.

You may need to submit additional documents:

Have you already studied?Hide

Proof of your previous academic performance (Transcript of Records) and, if already available, your degree certificate; both in the original language and as a certified German or English translation

Have you attended a Studienkolleg in Germany?Hide

If so, please also submit the certificate for the assessment test . Please note that intermediate reports from the Studienkolleg unfortunately cannot be considered.

Other additional country-specific documentsHide

Depending on the country of your previous educational background, you may need to submit additional documents. Please also note the country-specific information provided by uni-assist.

Have you obtained an IB diploma?Hide
  • Applicants with an IB diploma must always submit the transcript for the last two school years to prove that they attended IB subjects throughout.
  • If it is foreseeable that you will not receive your IB diploma before the end of the application period, you will have to submit a certificate from the Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle für den Freistaat Bayern (ZASt) as an alternative to the IB diploma. This notification must be requested from the ZASt by the end of April. Further information can be found here (see the information sheet on the recognition of the "International Baccalaureate Diploma / Diplôme du Baccalauréat International")

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a VPD if I am already studying in Germany?Hide

If you have acquired your higher education entrance qualification in a non-EU country, you must apply via uni-assist. Since the admission criteria may vary from university to university, it is imperative that the higher education entrance qualification of each applicant be checked, regardless of whether he or she has already been enrolled at a German university. For some degree programmes, this review is carried out for us by uni-assist.

Can I also apply with a uni-assist test report?Hide

That depends.  If you have submitted a complete application for the University of Bayreuth via uni-assist, the test report can also be accepted with your application, provided it was not issued longer than one year ago.
However, if uni-assist has not received an application for the University of Bayreuth (but rather for a different university) or it was made over one year ago, the test report cannot be accepted.

When should I apply via uni-assist?Hide

You should apply at the earliest possible time, as the processing time of uni-assist can be 6-8 weeks. Please apply for your preliminary document review by mid-November for applications for the summer semester and by mid-May for applications for the winter semester.

What happens to my application if I don't submit my VPD on time?Hide

If you have not submitted your preliminary document review to us by the specified deadline in accordance with the instructions in CAMPUSonline, your application will be deemed not to have been received on time and you will then receive a letter of denial. Please submit your application to uni-assist as early as possible, as the processing time of uni-assist can be 6-8 weeks.
Unfortunately, if you missed the application deadline, you would need to reapply for the next semester using the preliminary document review you received. Since the preliminary document review remains valid for one year, a new application to uni-assist is not necessary.

How can I select my desired degree programme via uni-assist?Hide

After registration and filling in your personal data, please select "search of study offers". Choose the semester, the desired qualification (Bachelor or Master) and the university (University of Bayreuth). The system will then display all degree programs. Please select your desired degree programme.

How much does the preliminary document review cost?Hide

Information on the costs of the preliminary document review is available here.

Can I apply for several programmes with one single VPD?Hide

You can apply for all our programmes with one single VPD, as long as it is not older than a year and as long as it has been issued for an application for the University of Bayreuth.

Applying via uni-assist is only the first application step. Your application will only be considered to have been received in due form and time if you have also applied via our CAMPUSonline platform and have submitted all the required documents, including your preliminary document review, in due form and time. Detailed information on the full application process is available on the relevant degree programme pages.
