OLS Newsletter – Special Edition
10.01.2025
OLS strives to improve the learning experience for mobility participants. This is why the content has been expanded beyond the regular A1-B2 courses and placement tests. The glossary below provides more insights into some of the new activities OLS added in 2024 for all 29 languages:
- ‘Let’s Go Further’ offers learners ways to reinforce the skills seen in a related language-learning module with a series of consolidation activities that are integrated directly in the modules.
- ‘Let’s Play’ provides learners with opportunities to use their new language skills by playing games.
- ‘Let’s Explore’ equips learners with knowledge about cultural intelligence to help them thrive in the country of their mobility. You can find it in the Spotlight section of the Learn a new language page.
- ‘How Do We Say…?’ allows learners to explore a specific linguistic, phonetic or cultural aspect of a language through activities integrated directly in the modules.
- Boosts are supplementary activities that are triggered when a user fills in a personalised learning questionnaire. These allow for a learning experience that’s better tailored to that participant's needs and preferences.
Coming in 2025
And OLS is not stopping here! The following will be released early in 2025:
- ‘Let Us Tell You a Story’ will get learners engaged in storytelling through multiformat activities using comics and audio, for example.
- ‘I Want to Know’ will empower learners to take control of their learning process by fostering metacognitive skills.
Last year, OLS has been expanded to include blended lesson plans for language teachers and specialised learning for those doing vocational education and training (VET) courses.
- Blended lesson plans are tailored for language teachers to complement their lessons. You can learn more about blended learning here or in the corresponding guide.
- VET content helps learners prepare for their training through preparatory and immersive modules covering 10 industry sectors. Learn more here.
Apart from the learning content presented above, our forums are an integral part of helping participants learn a new language. In OLS learning communities each mobility participant can:
- benefit from the support of one of our 29 community managers;
- connect with other learners and find themselves a buddy to practice and exchange language skills;
- have fun thanks to the mini contests and speaking sessions organised for each community.
Keep an eye open for announcements in your language-learning communities and actively participate in the discussions. Community managers regularly share updates on current and upcoming activities.
