Language skills Hide

A sound knowledge of the language of instruction is essential for a successful stay abroad and must be demonstrated at the time of application for an exchange place in the University of Bayreuth's programs.

How do I determine the language of instruction to be demonstrated at a host university?
Since languages of instruction at universities are not always limited to the national language, we advise you to find out the possible languages of instruction before applying.

Your research should include the following sources of information:

  • Current online course catalog of your desired university. If this has not yet been published, the previous year's course catalogue.
  • Travel Reports of your predecessors
  • The websites of the partner universities or their fact sheets in our interactive partner map.

What language level do I need to prove for my desired university?
Once you have successfully found out the language of instruction, you need to clarify what language level you need to prove for a stay at your desired university.

For each of our partner universities, the language level required to apply for our programs is specified in the partner overview. You can find this information for each university in the UBT language requirement field.

Please note that these requirements are the minimum requirements at the time of application for mobility programs at the University of Bayreuth. Our partner universities may require more advanced language skills and may require proof of these at the time of application to the host university.

For this reason, you must always check which proof you can use to demonstrate the language level expected there in your application to this university. Information on the language requirements of the host universities can be found directly on the websites of the host universities and, if applicable, in the fact sheets, which you can view in the interactive partner overview.

What proof of language proficiency is accepted by the University of Bayreuth?
The language level required for your application for an exchange place at the University of Bayreuth must be demonstrated with an official academic language certificate.
