The Akita International University offers their 6-week winter short intensive program 2026, Japanese Language and Cultural Immersion Program: Advanced (J-CIP:A) to students from all over the world. The program gives participants the chance to join intermediate and advanced Japanese language classes and immerse themselves into unique circumstances, current issures, and cultural assets of rural Japanese society.

The program is fully conducted in Japanese to allow students to focus on the improvement of their Japanese language skills. Since the program is fast paced, students are required to partake in all classes and activities including field trips.

Program period:

• Jan 7 – Feb 12, 2026

Application:

Fees:

• 325,000 JPY (Approx. USD 2184) Exchange students
• 455,000 JPY (Approx. USD 3057) Fee-Paying
• Includes rooms, board and excursion fees.

The program is targeted at intermediate-advanced Japanese speakers (recommended JLPT N2 or higher, CEFR high B1, approaching B2). Students will receive 6 AIU credits (90 contact hours). The program is limited to 15 participants. Priority will be given to exchange students and higher language proficiencies if the applications exceed the limit.
