Going Abroad

“Exchange isn’t a year in your life, it’s a life in a year!”

Due to increasing internationalisation, spending time abroad during one's studies is becoming more and more important. Such a stay not only contributes to personal development, but also to professional qualifications. A study by the DAAD and the German Economic Institute (IW) highlights the importance of spending time abroad, not only for students starting their careers, but also for their future career development.

A stay abroad can take various forms. These include, for example, semesters abroad, internships abroad, writing a thesis or language courses abroad. The University of Bayreuth offers many opportunities to make these stays a reality and supports you in planning and financing your project.

Studying abroadHide

Study visit within europe

As part of the Erasmus+ program, students have the opportunity to complete a subject-specific semester abroad in another European country and receive financial support from Erasmus+.

Study visit outside europe

Outside Europe, the university has agreements with almost 200 partner institutions spread across all continents. These agreements are generally not subject-specific and are therefore independent of the degree program. Within the framework of these partnerships, tuition fees are waived at most universities.

Here you can find further information on studying abroad.

Freemover

In case you do not find a suitable university among our partner institutions, you have the option of going abroad as a freemover, organising and financing your stay yourself.

Here we have collected some information on Freemover stays.

Internship abroadHide

Spending time abroad in the form of an internship during your studies is becoming increasingly important. The International Office will be happy to advise you on finding an internship and financing options.

Here you can find further information on internships abroad.

Short staysHide

A short stay abroad offers the opportunity to gain international experience within a short period of time and to establish contacts. Many of the short stays take place during the semester breaks and can therefore be easily integrated into the regular academic schedule.

Financial support for certain stays outside Europe is available through PROMOS.
Short stays cannot be funded through the Erasmus+ program.
