Applied Theatre: Theatre as Social Work, Master of Arts (M.A.)

This degree programme is offered in cooperation with the Coburg University of Applied Sciences.

Admission to the Master's degree programme in Applied Theatre: Theatre as Social Work requires a a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a university degree in an artistically or scientifically oriented degree programme (social work, social pedagogy, drama, dramaturgy, theatre studies, directing, theatre pedagogy, theatre didactics), theatre pedagogy, theatre didactics) or an equivalent degree.

  • Summer Semester:  start of studies not possible
Which documents do I need to submit during my online application?
  • Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD) uni-assist for an application for Universität Bayreuth
    Preliminary review documentation
    Deadline for submitting the VPD in the online application in CAMPUSonline: 15 May
    Please request your VPD via the uni-assist web portal as early as possible - but at the latest 6-8 weeks before the respective application deadline at the University of Bayreuth.
    Please enter your 7-digit uni-assist applicant number in the text field in CAMPUSonline.

  • Bachelor's thesis or equivalent academic work
    please submit your Bachelor's thesis. If you have obtained another degree (e.g. diploma programme), please submit the equivalent thesis.
  • Curriculum Vitae
    we require a current curriculum vitae without chronological gaps up to the time of your application at UBT. The cv must contain accurate and complete information about your formal education (schools and universities attended, dates of exams/final exams, degree conferral, etc.). Please do not leave gaps in your cv, even if, at times, you were not enrolled at a school or university or gainfully employed, i.e. if you were on an extended vacation or hiatus, as we are interested in the entire history of your intellectual and personal development.
    Feel free to use the template of the European Union for your Curriculum Vitae.
  • Exposé
    an exposé of a maximum of 3 DIN A4 for an Applied Theatre project to be developed with details of possible venues, target groups, forms of work and presentation, timetable, etc.
  • Language certificate GERMAN level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages)

  • Link to audio and/or video material
    Please provide a link to audio and video material that documents your own work. The text field ‘Link to audio and/or video material’ opens during the input in CAMPUSonline
  • Passport
    please provide an electronic copy of your valid passport. If you do not have a German identification card, you may submit a copy of your temporary identification or your international passport.
  • Transcript of records BACHELOR (or for comparable degree) including subjects and grades - at least 150 ECTS points with a final grade corresponding to "2,5" or better on the German grading system
    original language + certified translation in German or English*
  • Written presentation of course-specific competences (letter of motivation)
    a cover letter of a maximum of 2 DIN A4 pages, in which the reasons for the application are briefly explained with reference to the previous study specialisations. Audio and video material documenting your own work must be made available in the application via a link.

*Certified translation in German or English: only required if the document was not issued in German or English

If available or applicable, please also submit the following documents:
  • Degree certificate BACHELOR
    original language + certified translation in German or English*
    you may be enrolled on condition that you submit the certificate by the end of the first semester
  • Evidence of special qualifications or additional professional qualifications
    e.g. vocational training, internships, stays abroad, recommendation letter
  • List of modules for which no evidence of performance exists yet
    only required if your studies have not yet been completed
  • Request for disadvantage compensation
    if you are unable to take an aptitude test in whole or in part in the intended form due to a prolonged or permanent disability, an application for disadvantage compensation can be made. Proof of the examination disability must be provided in the form of a medical certificate, which can be uploaded here.
  • Admission from the University of Bayreuth for this course of study from a previous semester (and possibly a letter of requirements)
    only to be uploaded by applicants who already got an admission letter from the UBT for the respective master's programme in a previous semester, but did not manage to start their studies
