Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance enters second round
The Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance is a joint initiative of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts (StMWK) and the Queensland Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI), which was signed in May 2023. Joint projects by researchers from both countries are to receive financial support. A total of 14 cooperative projects were selected in 2024.
Today marks the start of the second round with both funding lines:
- Seed Grants are intended to support Bavarian researchers traveling to Queensland with a maximum funding amount of up to € 10,000 over a period of 12 months in order to facilitate the establishment of long-term collaborations. Applications can be submitted until 14th May 2025.
- Development Grants provide funding of up to € 70,000 for 24 months. This program focuses on supporting the implementation of practice-oriented and innovative research projects. Applications for Development Grants can be submitted until 18th June 2025.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible, Chairman of the Board of Universität Bayern e.V., emphasizes:
“The funding programme under the Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance is a prime example of how scientists at Bavarian universities and universities of applied sciences are cooperating internationally and setting the course for our future in collaboration with industry partners. We can only solve the central challenges of our time together - with our global partners, with industry and with the support of politics. We are therefore very grateful to the StMWK for the funding and the unique opportunities offered by the funding programme under the Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance. We are very much looking forward to the second round of calls, which we hope will be followed by many more.”
Also, Prof. Dr. Walter Schober, Chairman of the Board of Hochschule Bayern e.V., is delighted about the continuation of the two funding lines:
“The Bavaria-Queensland Research Alliance offers Bavarian universities of applied sciences an attractive opportunity to implement innovative research projects with a strong application focus together with partner universities in Australia. We are thus strengthening our international profile and promoting scientific exchange. I look forward to our researchers contributing their projects and ideas to this research line.”
