Freemover
If you haven't found a suitable partner university for your semester abroad in our exchange database, you can study for one or two semesters at a university of your choice as a freemover. The following information is intended to help you organize your plans.
Organizing your Stay
First, find a university that offers a suitable degree program for you and clarify the basic details regarding your destination country, the time of your stay, and its duration.
- Learn about the higher education system in your destination country, for example, by using the DAAD country information database (also note the related links), information from the Central Office for Foreign Education (Anabin) and World Education Services.
- Check directly with the International Office at your preferred university to see if and how you can apply as a freemover. Depending on the university, a freemover may also be referred to as a “visiting student,” “study abroad student,” or “non-degree student.”
Free agencies such as Asia Exchange, College Contact, AIFS, Institute Ranke-Heinemann, GOstralia!-GOzealand! can assist you in organizing a freemover stay.
You can also find general information on studying abroad on the DAAD website.
